A Week
6/23/20
Another week in lockdown goes like this
Monday-Get up really early and go to grocery store to shop and buy a paper. Done by 7:20 a.m.
Take a walk to a farm supply outlet and look at all the huge machines. These are tractors, combines, and harvesters that I see from my living room, and hear when they are being demonstrated.
The harvesters are the most fun to watch.
When I dropped by the office of New Holland Agriculture, I was cheerfully helped to a brochure and an invitation to bring any kids in for a tour.
Unfortunately the kid that would be delighted to take that tour is not in the state.
The best I can do is write this blog, send a photo and hope for the best.
The biggest unit costs half a million dollars to buy.
Most are leased, and they disappear at night to be used in harvesting.
Right now our oats are being harvested in the cool of the night.
On the brochure, it shows a windrower. The machine cuts alfalfa and leaves it in a tidy row to dry, later another machine comes along and turns the cuttings into bales.
Then the bales are sold to those ranchers with horses and cattle.
I have personal experience with how much a horse needs in a week.
The rest of the day is spent cleaning, laundry, running the dishwasher, moving furniture around, reading on an iPad, and watching t.v.
Tuesday-
More getting up early to go and buy a paper for the answers to the crossword puzzle, napping, watching t.v..
Wednesday- See Tuesday.
Thursday- See Wednesday.
Friday – naps, housework, looking forward to watching news wrap up and Shields and Brooks.
Sat- Morning walk, watch cartoons.
Sunday, early morning walk and shopping, buy Sunday paper for lots of comics, book review, and puzzles.
I try to use the stationary bike for exercise in the cool apartment, as outside is 100 degrees. The only thing I miss is the bus ride back from downtown.
I am surprised at how this one item can change my routine so drastically. Hoping for return to normal life but know it will not be too soon.
