I was walking towards the 12th and I tram station in downtown Sacramento one day, and I heard the chant-“Si se Puede” which from my elementary Spanish I knew was the rallying cry of “Yes, we can” of various Hispanic demonstrators. Then the crowd in front of a fire station got louder, complete with bullhorn and started chanting “Sheriff- Listen! Immigration is not your business”. This chant went on for a while and then some speeches followed in Spanish.
I had to catch my tram, so went on my way.
Later, I got to thinking about what the chant was about, and knew it was a protest of the high handed statements about illegal immigrants who were illegal through no fault of their own.
A child goes where the parents take her, and has no say about anything, and cannot take measures to get a visa even if she knew she needed one.
Later on the local conservative talk television, a big blow hard was inveigling against these children, claiming that they were illegal immigrants and should be called by that term, and not called “Dreamers” or have anyone extend any comfort or leniency towards them.
In this neighborhood I have been given a whole new sociology class on invective usually from the far right. How any blonde bimbo can get up in front of the camera and claim that we should support a leader that has done so much damage already to our civil discourse, encouraged hateful rhetoric, supported hate groups, and in general tried to destroy the common sense laws enacted by the former occupant of the White House is beyond credibility.
One very interesting comment heard on the social media is about the storm now chugging towards Florida.
There are longitude and latitude co-ordinates given out and posted as if the gods of hurricanes would answer prayers and send a lightning bolt down to that specific house.
Maybe in the old day’s gods answered prayers and curses such as this, but the posting of locations and specific addresses has no effect on the winds of the sea.
If there is damage in West Palm Beach, it perhaps will be a wakeup call to start to ease off on putting more pollutants into our atmosphere, but sadly it will make no difference, and the low lying shores of our country will soon be lined with buildings sitting on twenty feet high pylons in order to let the sea water flow through without taking the building down.
I just watched the old movie Waterworld, and can see how it may still be a scenario that comes to pass.
