Awash in idiocy
Today’s treatise is pulled from a funny little book by Charles P. Pierce, entitled Idiot America: How Stupidity Became a Virtue in The Land of the Free.
I start with the October 7, 2005 case of Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School Board in which a local pastor Ray Mummert declared that “We’ve been attacked by the intelligent, educated segment of our culture”.
That shows me that he did not know that he was an idiot, and by declaiming that the intelligent and educated people of America were attacking his neighborhood because they sued to get his religious opinions out of the school curricula, only emphasizes how vigilant we must always be.
Fortunately we had Judge Jones who declared that teaching Intelligent Design instead of Science in high schools was a case of “breathtaking inanity” and so saved us all.
It is a shame that after ten years we still have so much of our population believing that evolution did not happen, that dinosaurs could be tamed and ridden with an English saddle by cavemen, and that televangelists can con their followers into paying for a new jet plane to spread the idiocy.
Other idiots that come out of the woodwork are Ann Coulter, Glen Beck, and Donald Trump.
I thought it was a pretty funny sight to see a wannabe politician who only has a lot of money, stand up and declaring he is going to be President, all the while wearing a recycled orange muskrat on his head, and spouting such hate speech as to the effect that he would build a wall between Mexico and Texas and make the Mexicans pay for it. A true home grown idiot.
Right winger Ann Coulter has always spouted negativity and garners so much approval for her nastiness that it is hard to understand why her mommy ever loved her. Maybe she didn’t, and that caused all the idiot hatred for the common people that Coulter shows.
Lately she has had some setbacks with cancellations, and thereby narrowing her audience. I say it couldn’t happen to a more fitting gal.
Glen Beck- a man on fire with lunacy. Or as George says, he maybe only plays the public lunatic on television. Mr. Beck is a follower of W.Cleon Skouson a crank who is provably nuttier than squirrel poo.
To any of you who have watched Mr. Beck on the so called “idiot box” will perhaps be forgiven for your incredulity, but sloughing him off as merely “entertainment” does a disservice to your own intelligence. This man is dangerous to free America.
I think that the evidence for man- made global warming is pretty much set now, with droughts in California, floods in the Mid-West, and rising ocean levels that are making low lying islands disappear from the Chuckchi Sea to the Pacific. This ongoing process is still being denied by a particular political party, as they are in the clutches of the energy companies.
As is quoted in this book, “By the end of the summer, one of our two major political parties had surrendered itself almost entirely to the monkey house. While undoubtedly entertaining, this was in no way a good thing.”
No indeed, while the educated and intelligent folks scratch their heads at the insane mind sets of the Tea Party, and wonder how we are going to even survive the next election with a dozen or so idiots running on the Way Back to Victorian Times plank, the air keeps heating up, and our waters keep rising.
