Bill O’Reilly is wrong
Bill is wrong about many things but his dependence on an invisible sky daddy is the big one.
His personality was formed by his dysfunctional family: a father who was quick to punish and very withdrawn with anger management issues, and a mother who would have been accused of child endangerment for driving her little boy out into one of the worst hurricanes to hit Florida so that he could mumble his way through mass as an altar boy.
This Catholic upbringing saw little bully Bill through schools with nuns who would crack him on the ear, pinch shoulders, whack him upside the head and use a ruler without a qualm.
Bill claims that his god will balance things out with the good and bad, and blames society’s dysfunction on the rise of secularism.
Bill Maher on the other hand shows in logical terms that there is no savior type god coming back to the plains of Megiddo to destroy the world and save all those who believe in him.
I could watch Religulous for the next 20 years and it would still be true.
Bill O’Reilly fears the “freedom from religion” factor as contributing to our decay in society. On one hand he claims a close working relationship with his guardian god, but really is scathing in his denunciation of the perversity in the Catholic clergy.
Bill believed that his god is “going to sort out the gay issue”.
I ask- how does that work? Is his god going to wait until all gay and lesbians die to sort them into various levels of hell and heaven?
In the meantime god has to go along with the Supreme Court which has ruled on this issue for this life in this country, and that is that all men/women have a right to marry whoever they choose, and to deny this is an infringement of civil rights.
Some people take a long time to fully understand this or accept it.
Bill admits that he is an honest to god prick.
His personality was such that he was always in trouble with his teacher/nuns and Marist brothers. He wanted to be right, and he wanted to be the center of attention. This is clearly a Narcissist syndrome operating. He hated all four years of high school because of the harsh education practices of the Marist brothers.
In his professional life Bill would often write the story before he did an interview, and asked the questions that would fit his preplanned scenario.
During his foreign reporting days, Bill would be in risky situations. When in Argentina covering the 1982 Palace Riot, a soldier pointed his rifle at Bill but did not pull the trigger.
Bill claims once more that “God was good”.
When he had some health problems and suffered the pain of a kidney stone, he stated once more that “ God is punishing him for being too tough on his guests”.
So- here is a highly egotistical showman who sometimes stretches the truth in his professional life, claiming that he has an invisible non responsive entity monitoring his behavior and passing out to Bill personally all these little helps and punishments.
However does this god find time for the rest of Christendom?
The simple answer is , and I prefer to keep things simple is that this god/companion tooth fairy of Bill’s is all in his head.
It is a way of him denying responsibility for his own actions, and putting the blame elsewhere. The rise in secularism is because people are now willing to take responsibility and stop blaming “outside supernatural forces” for their own fuckups.
This trend is something that can be told in graphs for those of you who like statistics.
In 2008 according to Bill and Pew Research more than 90% of those living in America believed in his God. 81% are self-described Christian, but what god does the average Muslim believe in? That was not explored. Also, 85% believe that religion is an important part of their lives.
That well may be, but it has not shown up in other research polls as to how religion affects the average person’s actions, such as cheating on Medicare, taxes, and their spouses.
By 2014 the figures are starting to change, where those Americans not in any religion rise to 21%.
Most importantly over 35% of those under 35 have no religious affiliation. In other words it is obvious that the younger generation does not care too much about Bill’s god.
Are we as a country starting to forget our founder’s god?
Perhaps, and as history shows us there are many forgotten ones.
The top five popular gods of times past include Osiris, Quetzalcoatl, Dagon, Ba’al and Athena.
There are 180 lesser gods in the ancient Roman panoply which were all pagans, and let us not forget Thor, Zeus, and Loki. The ancient Greek gods have been making a resurgent appearance via the movies and video games, but this does not measure up to the all-knowing, omnipresent invisible Christian god of three parts.
Bill has a checkered track record on employment. He never stayed at any television station for very long, and was not initially a blooming success on Fox channel when he started his The O’Reilly Factor. His numbers only took off when his time slot got moved to prime time and the audience started to respond to his bullying type of journalism.
He likes to say he is a journalist, but I still think of him as a showman of the snake oil type, because he supports his social policy pronouncement s with his very incorrect religious views.
He is especially witty and off kilter when he proposes the social programs to “fix” the problems of the inner cities.
His answer to the death penalty would be to send all death row inmates to Alaska and require them to do hard labor on the rock pile while chained together supposedly.
His answer to abortion would be to keep it legal but restrict it mightily. Since Bill can’t get pregnant I would suggest that he go F— himself on this item.
He believes that the Green movement has hurt our country because it restricts energy exploration. Well, now we see the slump in oil prices, which proves again that Bill is wrong.
We do not need more exploration for dirty petroleum to fuel our monster mommy wagons and pickup trucks.
He likes the idea of a national sales tax and to do away with payroll taxes. Hmm- that one may be O.K. but it is not going to happen because the top one percent likes the tax codes to be serpentine and not easy to understand.
He thinks the U.S. Government should make the Army take over border patrolling to stabilize the illegal immigrant and drug smuggling. Yes, and maybe he can go in with Donald Trump and make those Mexicans pay for a big wall to keep out all the riff raff.
This man has authored several books that takes a historical figure and makes a novel out of the story. These are simple, easy to read, and have no more social impact than yesterday’s burrito, maybe less. He went on the GMA show to tout his book on Ronald Reagan, and claimed that the assassination attempt made Reagan a better President. I beg to differ, Bill, and cannot see how this idolizing of a senile second rate actor can benefit us in our understanding of the office of POTUS.
As I said, he makes things up, and then gets on television to try and sell his version of reality.
His appearance on the news show with Charlie Rose was remarkable only in that he was very polite and non-belligerent, a welcome change for a lifelong bully.
Bill will never change , as religious zealots are incapable of change, but history has a way of dulling even the sharpest ideologue. Stay tuned.
