There is a new museum in Washington D.C. called the Museum of the Bible. The investors who gathered the funds for this building proclaiming the benefits of the “Good Book” have forgotten all the misery, crime, wars, slavery and misogyny told in this so called good book. Good for whom? Why did not the president of Hobby Lobby place the multimillion dollar building outside of Tulsa OK?
He wanted to proselytize in the nation’s capital for maximum attention. His purpose was to make all visitors re-consider the Christian bible as a wealth of advice pertinent to today.
The financial backers forgot to read their “holy” bible closely.
Google has done all the work for us, so I listed some of the highlights that the museum will conveniently overlook.
Violence in the Bible.
We start out with Genesis 34 in which we find rape and vengeance killing.
Gang rape and victim dismemberment.
Murder of John the Baptist with his head ending up on a plate, a pretty dish to set before the king indeed.
Killing of Ananias and Sapirea. Read it for yourselves.
Slaughter of brother, friend and neighbor.
Slavery and punishment of a slave by bisection. They sure loved those cutting rituals!
All of it is violent, but an angel poisons the seas and another makes the sun scorch all living things. Wait! We do that all by ourselves, no need for angels.
Human sacrifice in payment of winning a battle. Victorious general comes home and kills his little daughter because he promised his bloodthirsty god he would do so.
These are a few examples but I found another more extensive list of crimes, wars, murders, genocides, rapes, fratricide, incest etc. in both Old and New Testaments.
We start again with Genesis 1-23
Numbers 2:25- is especially apt- All nations shall be terrorized by followers of Yahweh! Not Allah.
Joshua 396- 444
1 Samuel 494-543
2 Samuel 544-585
1 Kings 586-627
2 Kings 628-664
1 Chronicles 665-687
2 Chronicles 688-721
Psalms 748 -800
Obadiah and Mica carry us on to the total of 1321 instances of criminal behavior quoted directly from our so called Good Book.
I fail to see how anybody can say that they believe that this collection of horror shows is in any way a good book full of the word of their benevolent deity.
I am a librarian and have many nice books on my bookshelf, but the bible is not one of them.
I consider the Christian Bible, the Muslim Quran, the Book of Mormon and any other texts that contain all the stories about god inspired crimes to be just fairy tales.
Fairy tales for adults in this day and age are nonsensical, and big money to back the propagation of these fairy tales is exceptionally dangerous.
