Just another Sunday
4/11/20
Today is Saturday, so I have time to make a list for early morning shopping. Tomorrow is Easter Sunday, but just another day in lockdown to me.
I will not join any digital age communications, will not fast or say prayers.
The advent of a virus strong enough to empty the streets of all the worlds’ major cities has also given me the freedom to do as I wish in the privacy of my own home.
So- I will not be cooking up a huge ham dinner for family.
I will not be worried that I have not done any laundry for two weeks, or have not even shampooed my hair for a while.
Who cares?
What will I be doing?
First, I will arise early, not to witness sunrise on a hill with a crowd of religious enthusiasts, but to enjoy the opening of a supermarket to the senior citizens who want to shop in relative safety.
My shopping list includes coffee and coffee filters, a chocolate bunny so I can bite off the ears first, and fresh veggies.
Then, at home I will play cd’s of classic music. Berlioz turned up loud is very satisfying.
For evening viewing after the depressing news of world wide deaths I will make some popcorn and settle in to watching Terminator: Genesis.
I rather enjoy the television views of empty Rome plazas and stories of the rebellious ones who want to congregate despite orders to stay home.
Those rebels will succumb to the Darwin Awards no doubt.
Staying in touch with friends is now done by phone, and I just now talked to an old friend from grade school days.
We are watching neighbors and classmates die of ailments due to old age, and so far none of our family members have contracted the deadly virus.
As long as we remain sensible and keep our distance, this pandemic will subside.
The human race survived the Black Plague with no help from any supernatural force, and so will we here on this modern day planet survive this new plague.
