Facebook fiends

This morning a talk show highlighted the problems with a social platform called Facebook.
A member of Congress came out with the accusation that it responsible for people dying, just as Big Tobacco killed millions in the not too distant past.
I was shocked to learn the numbers.
A third of the world thinks that this Facebook thingy is important enough to play with, and advertisers pay a lot of money to get the viewership.
What makes it so big?
Crap.
Sheer lies and conspiracy theories that only exist to gain viewers and their interactions.
Ask me if I care.
I did not know it was popular until the controversy arose about the lies and misinformation present on it.
My experience is minimal.
I read to see if any of my half dozen friends and family post photos of themselves.
I hardly post anything: maybe two short comments every so on, with never any photos.
I cannot imagine anyone posting more than that but my imagination is severely limited in this case.
What do I see when I log on?
Usually it is some distant family member that shows where they are eating that day.
Over the years I have seen them get grayer, and heavier. Nothing new happens in their lives except maybe a few illnesses or operations. Always popular are pictures of children and grandchildren in their school successes.
Since I was raised to read a daily newspaper, and take my opinions from books, I think that taking an opinion about my health from an unknown source is the height of stupidity.
Well, stupid dies in this case, and I would like to last a bit longer.
So- can we think that by providing a super fast vehicle of non information spreading that Facebook is endangering the species?
It is if people are not exhibiting good sense, and really believe that there are poisons in a vaccine, and the government is using that as a tracking device.
I would say that Zuckerberg and Company is aiding Darwin quite handily, and removing stupid from the gene pool.
Rock on, Mr.Z!
