I did not lose sleep over trying to catch any part of this royal wedding, as I wake up early anyway.
I saw over and over the carriage, red coated riders, esthatic crowds of tourists, and the ceremony.
My only criticism is Gail King’s hat.
Why on earth did she think a green monstrosity the size of a man hole cover made her chic or even sane looking?
Fashion can be crazy, and the hats sported by the young can be amusing, but on an aging newscaster, not so attractive.
As for following the arc of the Royal Family, I was raised with the history of the Queen when she was a child, and read most of the books published. I saw the Coronation on film at a country drive in theater, and watched all the subsequent weddings on television. I have grown old with the Queen, and like to remember my visit to Westminster Abbey as one of my life’s highlights, as that is where she was crowned Queen. Weddings and the attending hoopla are for the young, and after so much coverage, it becomes kind of commonplace. A coronation remains as the apex of royal life, and is sometimes longer lived than marriages.
