On a television talk show today, Noam Chomsky came out with a shocking statement. He claimed that the ISIS and Al Qaeda were not the most dangerous organizations in the world, despite their actions of carnage in many different countries.
The most dangerous was the Republican Party of America.
I was a bit set back, as these people in this particular party are some of my friends and neighbors, and even relatives.
I guess the ones we can hold harmless are those members of the party that do not hold a political position in our government. My son Richard supports the actions of John McCain and Arnold Schwarzenegger and claims that they are not half bad.
The reason given for this rather outrageous statement by Mr. Chomsky was that these terrorist organizations were not trying to destroy our planet.
Their efforts were limited in scope and to certain geographical regions and not felt to any degree on a large scale.
However, the members of Congress who roll back environmental protection laws, encourage the production of more fossil fuels and support more dirty coal to be used, are endangering the whole world.
I do not see how any individual can guarantee his supply of clean air, clean water, and sweet un-poisoned soil and deny these benefits to all others around him. Unfortunately we have such individuals running our country. They put self-interest above all else and only obey the money masters. Their hope is to be elected indefinitely, and the Devil takes the hindmost.
When the sea levels rise enough to inundate some golf courses in Florida, when the thawing tundra pops out huge methane bubbles, and when Greenland turns from icy white to lime green, then we have those political animals to thank.
