Bill Nye, What a Guy!
This Sunday morning we were treated to another story of Bill Nye, the man who brought us real science for years and years on television.
His whole professional life has been to educate us in the scientific principle and chase the webs of superstition away.
Sadly there are still portions of our so called “enlightened population “that refuses to get the message. A debate on stage with a Mr. Ham (bone) proved that silly buggers are still trying to prey on the fearful and rake money off the gullible.
As Mr. Nye points out, there are billions of stars in the universe, and the galaxies beyond our view in the strongest telescope show that there will probably be life out there somewhere.
Those who argue against this fact have shown their ignorance on insisting that the world popped into existence 6,000 ago.
To bolster their claims, there is now a new museum in Kentucky built around the ark of the Bibles’ measurements and including dinosaurs that are supposedly living alongside human beings.
Bill Nye has argued against this story but people who should know better still like to believe such drivel.
So what can we do with people who refuse to believe facts when they are plain to see?
Light travels at a certain rate, and from that set of math formulas we can figure out that other stars and galaxies are over 6.000 years old, and that they are light years away.
The New York Public Library Desk Reference has a neat little chart showing important discoveries in the past.
It starts out at 12,000 B.C. with the discovery of Fire.
Next is at 10,000 B.C. with Zero.
Just imagine before 10,000 years ago we did not have a way to show the position that came before the number one. This was not a Christian discovery either, but some unnamed priests in the Hindu religion.
The number before the number one helped our technology tremendously and paved the way for mathematics of a high order and a career for Bill Nye the Science Guy.
