Author Peggy Noonan
Absolutely on the wrong side of history is our dear conservative pundit, Peggy.
She had an interview on NPR the other day and the question was asked-“Do you believe in global warming?”
She waffled of course, saying that she believed in climate change, and each country should individually try to clean up their act, and thought that making changes in our lives which are mandated from another political arena, was too expensive.
All that means is that she is still beholden to the energy companies and cannot give up her wrong footed stance on anything that is logical.
The logic of the Chinese having to stop half of the cars from driving in Beijing on any one day to help people breathe has no impact on her thinking.
The logic of drought and millions of people being forced out of their homes because of local climate changes, such as rising sea levels in the Pacific, and disruption of farming in northern Syria has no room in her concrete brain connections.
She also thinks that we should be fair to the memory of Ronald Reagan, and that he did so many good things for the world.
Well, let us take a look at his record, first, in California.
He wanted to save the state some money, so closed the mental hospitals. As a result the homeless PTSD suffering Viet Nam vets were out on the streets and out of luck. The resultant costs to local communities has gone unstudied, but the “trickle down effects” have made the nightly news.
The “trickle down” economics has been proved to be fallacious, and our vacant lots are full of the homeless who are suffering from the past criminal actions of Wall Street and the bankers selling “bundled” home loans.
Reagan claimed to have ended Communism, but the state of the Soviets fell under its’ own weight, and had the added impetus of their war in Afghanistan. When the Russians had boxcar loads of bodies coming back from their little incursion into the Hindu Kush, there was simply no more patience and no more money.
Reagan had very little to do with it except for blathering on camera.
Author Noonan brings up all the so called “good things” that Reagan accomplished, and tried to downplay the negative aspects of his benighted reign
For instance, there was the little war against Grenada, where the Marines went in and lost troops in an under planned cockup of military mismanagement.
To fund the fight against the Central American “Communists” a minor official had a great idea! Let’s sell arms to Iran, and buy drugs! People went to jail eventually, but then they tend to write books about all this crap.
Writing books seems to be the confessional now, with warring opinions jousting together on the best seller lists.
Why can’t we take a look at history a bit later and see how it Really was?
Popular press and the internet has given us “talking heads” who can lie in their teeth with a straight face, and the Republicans have given us apologist authors like Peggy Noonan, and bloviators like Donald Trump.
Tune in later; say 2039 to check on sea levels, immigration, and the survival of democracies. I hope we are pleasantly surprised, but then it will not be my circus or my monkeys anymore.
