Maureen the Meaney
May 1, 2013
Maureen Dowd of the New York Times used to be my favorite editorial writer.
When she pilloried Cheney and Company, it was great, as she had their measure.
When she told the truth about our several wars brought about by the Republicans, I applauded.
Now she thinks she can give the correct guidance to the President of the U.S. and I have realized that she is a total nag.
Being President of our country is not a fun job sometimes, and Obama can do nothing about the pack of hyenas in Congress that is bent on his destruction at the most, and obstruction of his policies at the least.
The Right wing Republicans have the Koch Brothers and their billions to rant and rave about all manner of things that we should be doing as a country, but Obama has only his Office and a Bully Pulpit.
Maureen says that he should provide leadership.
Is that the kind we got from Reagan and Bush Jr?
An increase in military spending from Reagan and a hike in taxes, two wars from Bush that is busting our budget, and the derision of the world for thinking we can be policeman for the whole universe?
Maureen seems to equate bullying and deceitfulness with leadership and since Obama is trying to restore civility to our political discourse, it seems that she is not satisfied with the way he is conducting government.
In times gone past we have had fisticuffs in the Senate, assassination attempts and outright lies posted on the social media.
I have seen posters of our president with a Hitler mustache drawn on his face and a senior citizen stated at lunch that he was so opposed to Obama that he would do something quite unforgivable, and that I cannot describe here.
Where are our manners?
Do we have to vocally shout out how much we despise a politician?
Do we have to spend money on hate material and smear tactics?
From The Drudge Report to Face book, I have seen so much hate and lies that I wonder whether or not we have a democracy.
And now a witty, educated woman from one of our most respected newspapers is starting to nag the President because he can’t seem to crack a whip and get the Congress in line.
Congress is determined that Obama shall have no more successes at all, and works tirelessly to give us the right to own military weapons so our kids can kill each other, and pass restrictive laws for gays, minority voters and women.
So if you do not like where our country is headed, you can thank the billions that have gone to smear our leader, and the return to medieval style life.
On another note, Paul Krugman has been awarded a Noble Prize for Economics, but you would think his opinion counts for nothing when you read some of the crap coming out of the far right blogs.
We have experts in financial matters, but continue to ignore them and waste their talent at helping us understand the morass of bad decisions in banking and outright fraud.
This morning a ray of sunshine peeked through in the latest jobs report.
We are adding jobs and have a declining unemployment rate.
The stock market broke records at the opening bell, and my children are working overtime at high tech jobs so they could give me a raise in support money.
So even if we do not always pay attention to the experts the Wheel of Time spins on and life goes forward.
