Before I get to bragging about great- grandmothers let’s hear it for grandmothers in general. What can they do? Well, grandmothers today are leaders in company structures, tend to be active and healthy. One grandmother of my acquaintance goes cycling on cross country jaunts equaling fifty miles or more. Sometimes she runs half marathons, or participates in Mud runs with her daughter.
She holds down a difficult job, and does yard work too!
The great -grandmother is myself, and I tend to go and pick trash from the beach and collect bag fulls. That is good exercise, but my weekend of Father’s Day was in particular a very active one.
On Friday, I was at a free concert in a small town, and danced to Golden Oldies for about 40 minutes non stop! Then Saturday I weed whacked a big back yard for my 75 year old friend whose son could not do it on account of a bad knee.
Then Sunday it was so pleasant I took an hour hike before breakfast, and then went to the movies by myself, as my friend liked to sleep in.
Later, I weed whacked some more, and tore out 20 year old vines that were holding up a rotten fence. This type of yard work is normal for me and I quite enjoy the activity. I just wish that I could do more, but when the summer temperatures hit 95-100 we great grandmothers tend to hibernate, and only come out after dark.
So what kind of great grannies do you have?
