Now that Todd Burpo has had his little fakey book made into a movie, a few comments are due. I despise the fact that this child who was neglected during a medical emergency has been exploited by his parents. They were in it for the money and to brag that their religion was TRUE!
Let’s take a look at other heavens. The Catholic heaven has an opposite place, called Hell, and once had Purgatory which has since been downgraded in importance. The Muslims have a nice water filled fountains -in- the garden type place along with virgins ready to pop peeled grapes into the mouths of dead martyrs. Sound logical.
The ancient Norse had Valhalla, with thunder and lightning bolts hurled down on miscreants below. I would have to check with the scriptwriters of Thor to catch the fine points of this location.
I think the Buddhists disregard any physical place to locate a heaven or hell, saying that we each create our own rewards and punishments as we go along.
The Chinese have ancestor worship and believe the ghosts hang around the living and need to be fed and watered on a regular basis to avoid insulting them. Evidently there is no room for dead Asians in any Christian heaven, so they circle around like lost birds, bothering their remaining living family members. Of course the Communists have no such belief in an afterlife if they are to be considered politiaclly correct.
Why are otherwise rational beings so caught up in the belief that they can determine the so called “life” after death?
Because they are scared, and want to hedge their bets. paying lip service to the various churches includes them in a buddy system, and like having a warm cuddly teddy bear helps them get through the night.
