How many of you traveler’s have been to a place that had a sign in front-“The movie X was made here?” I had the pleasure of visiting two locations that featured major movies and British television.
The first place was on my Elder Hostel trip to Oxford, and we climbed the stairs that appeared in the first Harry Potter movies. The new wizards and witches are supposedly coming in from the lake from the ground floor, and climbing up to the great Hall at Hogwarts.
I watch that movie just to see those ancient stairs in Christ Church University. The hall itself where I had breakfast of fried tomatoes, eggs and cold toast was not actually used in any movie, but the movie technicians took the measurments and duplicated it in the movies.
Of course, a sign outside the hall states the fact that it was the location of the scene of the First Years climbing up and Draco trying to lord it over Harry and convince him that he should get in with the “right People”.
The other movie location in Oxford was the pub where many a scene of the Inspector Morse series were shot. Also there is a street with a bridge over it that was copied from the “Bridge of Sighs ” in Venice, that appears in the television series quite often. I was lucky to see the original bridge in Venice on my Med cruise, but that is another story.
