From the Israeli archeologists’ we now know that camels did not roam about or work for biblical figures like Abraham. The explanations for finding references to camels in Genesis are that these are puff pieces written decades later in order to make the leaders back then seem richer and more important than in reality. Since there is some reason to believe that a lot of these biblical figures were made up anyway, what does that tell us?
In 1997 I wrote a paper for college dealing with Fakes and Forgers
Here is a portion of that paper.
” So much re-writing of history has gone on, and so many oral histories have been changed in the transfer to the written form, that it gives me the impression that most religious writing can be held suspect. There is also the idea that early religious writings were not invented by man, but authored by a deity who was just ‘inspiring’ human minds and hands. In this light, I could say that all of religious authorship’s are suspect. There is also the effect of people placing trust in a document simply because it is in written form. Our scandal sheets make a profit simply because people are eager and willing to believe any amount of nonsense if it is in published form.”
I have not changed this opinion since I wrote that most interesting paper dealing with Hitler forgeries, the Hoffman forgeries of religious matters, and an ancient monk’s writings to revenge himself on the Catholic Church.
There is a logic path to be followed here. If all scientific evidence is to the contrary that a certain animal did not exist at the time it was inserted into ancient writings, then the writings are most certainly false, or let us say a porposeful fantasy written for gain. The gain in the matter of the Hitler “diaries” was monetary,as was Hoffman’s dealings with wealthy potential buyers. In the matter of the false biblcal stories the purpose was to gain control of people through adherance to a religious belief. Power, money, control- these are the linchpins of many a hoax perpetrated on innocent populations.
The fact that the written word can also be disproven no matter how long it takes is also reason to hope for our future clarity of thinking.
