Sometimes the family get together’s are not all that wonderful. One Easter dinner I was embarrassed because my younger brother Roy acted up at the table and was sent away. We had a guest too. My dad did not care to be opposed and disciplined his kids no matter who was there.
Sometimes the Thanksgiving celebration got exciting when my daughter Pam’ s Significant Other tried to carve the turkey with an electric knife, but carved the cord instead, and produced sparks and hilarity.
Lately we have had some temper tantrums on Xmas, with sulky persons opting to stay home, or sit in the car while the rest of the family ate, drank and played with the toys that Santa brought
I prefer the peace and quiet that descends on us all after Xmas, when the carols shut up, and the Santa’s with the Salvation Army leave and take their bell ringing with them. After 65 years.of hearing the same old songs in December, my ears are about to bleed if I hear one more “I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus”.
Hooray for January- at least I can skip the hoopla around the Rose Parade, super bowl, and holiday specials and go read a book.
Oh wait, Downton Abbey is coming back next Sunday!
